Danish Landrace Goose (Dansk landgås)
Calm, friendly, less aggressive than many other goose breeds. Gets along well with other domestic animals and people. Retains a strong brooding and maternal instinct. Less noisy than the gray goose in general.
Danish Landrace Goose — a large, heavy, but relatively slender and long-legged breed, bred on the basis of local Danish stock of the gray goose (Anser anser). One of the closest to the wild ancestor cultural breeds of geese in Europe. Weight of ganders 7.0–9.5 kg (ideal 8.0–9.0 kg), geese 6.0–8.0 kg (ideal 6.5–7.5 kg). Body length 850–1050 mm, wingspan 1600–1850 mm. The head is relatively small, dry, elongated, with a wide forehead and a smooth transition to the beak without a “bump”. The beak is of medium length (62–78 mm), straight, bright orange. Eyes dark brown, almost black. Neck long (380–480 mm), moderately thick, with a slight “swan” curve. The body is long, deep, slightly cylindrical, with a wide rounded chest and an almost straight back. Wings are long, tightly pressed. The tail is of medium length, slightly raised, with 16–18 tail feathers. Legs are high, metatarsus 100–135 mm, bright orange. Plumage is dense, underdown light gray. Standard colors: gray (wild, with scaly pattern, dark stripe along the neck, white belly and undertail), white (completely snow-white), piebald (white with gray markings). It differs from the wild gray goose by its larger size, long high neck, massive bright orange beak, high leg set and less pronounced forehead. Acceptable proportions: body length 2.1–2.3 times the length of the neck, height at withers 450–550 mm. Disqualifying defects: short thick neck, low leg set, humpbacked head profile, black beak, weak plumage.
