The Chinese sturgeon is a very large fish from the sturgeon family. It lives in the Yangtze River and coastal waters of China, grows up to five meters in length, and can live for several decades.
The Chinese sturgeon differs from other sturgeons in its particularly long and narrow snout. It plays an important role in the ecosystem as a large predator and carrier of nutrients from the sea to the river. The species has been severely affected by dam construction and is now endangered.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
