banded newt
Ommatotriton vittatus
The Caucasian newt is an amphibian with a striped body from the family of true salamanders. It lives in freshwater bodies and humid places in the Middle East and spends part of its life in water and part on land.
The Caucasian newt differs from other newts with bright vertical stripes and a very high crest in males during the breeding season. It is important for nature as a predator that controls the population of insects and other small animals, and also serves as food for birds and snakes.
