Calm, hardy, well adapted to highlands. Less aggressive than other lines of Bactrian camels, has a strong herd instinct. Resistant to cold and hypoxia.
Qinghai camel — one of the largest and most massive ecotypes of the Bactrian camel. Height at withers: 180–205 cm (males), 165–185 cm (females). Body length: 320–380 cm. Live weight: males 650–950 kg (average 780–820 kg), females 480–680 kg (average 560 kg). Humps very large, highly set, well separated (distance between bases 35–55 cm). Head relatively small, dry, wedge-shaped, with a broad convex forehead and narrow muzzle. Ears small (90–120 mm), erect. Eyes large, dark brown. Neck long (110–135 cm), powerful, with dewlap and mane suspension in males. Body deep, broad, barrel-shaped, chest girth 210–245 cm. Limbs relatively short and massive (pastern girth 22–27 cm). Tail short (45–65 cm) with a tuft. Winter coat very dense and long (up to 140–180 mm on neck, shoulders, and sides). Dominant color — dark brown of various shades (chocolate to blackish-brown); dark brown, copper, rarely dark gray are allowed. Light colors are not allowed. Differs from the Mongolian type by larger size, short massive limbs, high widely spaced humps, darker and denser coat, better adaptation to high altitudes.
