Calm, hardy, adapted to the harsh conditions of the steppes and semi-deserts of Inner Mongolia. Less aggressive than many other Bactrian lines, possesses a strong herd instinct, resistant to cold and wind.
Sonid camel (Sonid Bactrian Camel, 苏尼特双峰驼) — a selectively bred line of the Bactrian camel developed in Inner Mongolia (PRC). One of the largest and most massive lines. Height at withers 170–195 cm (males), 165–185 cm (females); body length 280–340 cm; live weight of males 680–950 kg (up to 1100 kg), females 550–780 kg. Build powerful, square, with deep chest, strong bone structure and coarse constitution. Head large, broad, relatively short (380–460 mm), slightly Roman-nosed, dark brown or blackish-brown in color. Ears small, erect, triangular (95–125 mm). Eyes small, deeply set, dark hazel to black. Neck powerful (90–110 cm) with dewlap and long mane. Humps very large, high (55–75 cm), cylindrical, vertically set, well separated; front hump larger than rear. Legs strong, wide, with large pads of dark gray/black color. Tail short (45–65 cm) with long tuft (280–350 mm). Coat very dense and long (guard hair 150–280 mm, undercoat 35–55 mm), predominant color dark brown to almost black with golden/copper sheen; dark brown, blackish-brown, grayish-brown allowed. Differs from other lines by greater mass, hump height, darker coat color and square body shape. Format index 1.65–1.75; chest girth/height >1.25; hump height ≥32–35% of withers height. Disallowed: weak bone structure, light coat color, weak coat, low stature.
