Camelus dromedarius 'Jaisalmeri'
Calm, hardy, well adapted to extreme heat and sparse pastures of the Thar desert. Possesses a strong herd instinct, relatively obedient when working with humans, but may show stubbornness under overloads. High resistance to stress in conditions of long transitions.
Jaisalmeri — a large, long-legged, elegant dromedary with a dry, sturdy build, long limbs, deep chest, and relatively light bone structure. Height at withers 198–215 cm (males), 185–198 cm (females); body length 240–270 cm; live weight of males 650–850 kg, females 550–680 kg. Head relatively small, dry, wedge-shaped with a slightly concave profile (Roman nose). Ears small (95–115 mm), erect. Eyes large, dark brown or almost black. Neck long (90–110 cm), thin, with 2–4 transverse skin folds. Hump single, compact, upright or slightly inclined backward, height 35–48 cm, positioned further back. Body deep, relatively narrow (chest girth 190–220 cm). Limbs very long and strong. Hooves wide (12–15 cm). Tail short (45–60 cm) with a dense tuft. Coat short and smooth in summer, lengthens in winter to 40–60 mm on the neck, shoulders, and hump. Dominant color — light sandy, beige, or creamy-golden with a golden sheen; skin dark gray or black, heavily pigmented. Distinguished by greater height, long limbs, light head, long thin neck, and compact hump compared to other dromedary breeds.
