Heliornis fulica
The South American finfoot is a small water bird about 30 centimeters long. It has special lobes on its toes that help it swim quickly and dive for prey in rivers and lakes of tropical forests.
The finfoot differs from other water birds in that the male carries the chicks in skin pockets on its body. It helps keep the water clean in tropical rivers by eating insects and small animals.
