altai mole
Talpa altaica
The Altai mole is a small mammal that spends almost its entire life underground. It digs long tunnels in the soil of forests and meadows of Altai and Siberia.
The Altai mole differs from the European mole in details of skull structure and a longer tail. It loosens the soil, improving it for plants, and serves as food for foxes, owls and other predators.

The mole molts twice a year — in spring and autumn. During molting, the old fur is replaced with new, which helps better retain heat underground.
