water buffalo breed
Bubalus bubalis 'Raso de Bubalo'
Calm, obedient, less aggressive compared to the wild Bubalus arnee. Gets along well in the herd, shows a strong maternal instinct in females. Less timid than wild relatives, adapted to working with humans.
Raso de Búfalo — compact, muscular, relatively low-growing meat selection line of the domesticated Asian buffalo. Live weight of adult males 650–950 kg, females 450–680 kg. Height at withers: males 1180–1350 mm, females 1060–1220 mm. Body length 1600–1950 mm. Stretch index ≈ 1.45–1.55. Head relatively short and wide (420–510 mm), forehead wide, slightly convex, profile straight or slightly concave. Horns lyre-shaped, shorter and thicker than in dairy lines (length along the outer curve in males 380–580 mm, in females 280–420 mm, base circumference 220–310 mm). Neck short, powerful, with a large dewlap in males (depth 350–450 mm). Body deep and wide, chest wide (480–580 mm), back straight, loin and rump wide and muscular. Limbs strong, relatively short. Tail relatively short (650–820 mm). Coat very short, sparse, tightly fitting, without undercoat. Dominant color — uniform coal-black or very dark gray. Skin thick, black or dark leaden. Small white markings on the lower parts of the limbs, tip of the tail and forehead (up to 10–15 %) are allowed. Differs from the wild ancestor by smaller size, more compact meat conformation, shorter and thicker horns, significantly shorter and sparser coat.
