colima pygmy owl
Glaucidium palmarum
The Colima pygmy owl is one of the smallest owls in the world. This bird, only 13–15 centimeters long, lives in dry forests of western Mexico and often hunts during the day.
The Colima pygmy owl differs from related species by its very small size and a special voice that sounds like repeated whistles. It is beneficial for the forest because it eats many insects and helps maintain balance in nature.
