Hamburg Tumbler
Lively, energetic, highly active. Strong instinct for somersaulting in flight (back somersaults). Calm in the dovecote, but requires regular flights. Gets along well with other pigeons, non-aggressive.
Hamburg Tumbler — a small, compact, high-standing breed of pigeons, bred to perform the characteristic “tumbling” (somersaulting) in the air. Weight 240–310 g (ideally 260–280 g), body length 220–260 mm, wingspan 480–540 mm. Gives the impression of a light, energetic bird with a very vertical posture and a highly raised head. The head is small, rounded, length 38–42 mm. The beak is short (14–17 mm), strong, slightly curved. The neck is short (45–55 mm), strongly curved back. The body is short and wide, the chest is rounded and protruding. The wings are short (160–175 mm), tightly pressed, do not reach the end of the tail by 10–15 mm. The tail is short (65–75 mm), of 12–14 feathers, carried almost vertically (70–85°). The legs are very short (tarsus 25–32 mm), clean-legged in the classic standard. The plumage is dense, smooth, with a strong sheen in colored individuals. Significantly smaller than most homing and meat pigeons, distinguished by an extremely vertical stance, a very short beak and a small head in relation to the body. Ideal proportions: head : body = 1 : 5.5; beak length ≈ ⅓ head length; stance angle 75–85°.
