The jungle fowl, or dark megapode, is a medium-sized bird from the megapode family. It lives in tropical forests and builds large mounds of leaves and soil, where the heat of decomposition warms its eggs instead of incubating them.
Unlike most birds, the jungle fowl does not incubate eggs but uses the heat of rotting plants. It is important for the forest because it loosens the soil, spreads seeds, and serves as prey for predators.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
