choco tapaculo
Scytalopus chocoensis
The Choco tapaculo is a small bird about 11 centimeters long. It lives in dense undergrowth of humid forests on the west of Colombia and Ecuador and rarely rises above one meter above the ground.
The Choco tapaculo differs from other tapaculos with its unique voice and very dark plumage without bright spots. The bird is important for the forest because it eats numerous insects and serves as an indicator of Choco humid forest preservation.
