Severtzov's hazel grouse is a small bird of the pheasant family that lives only in the mountain forests of central China. It has motley brown-gray plumage that well camouflages the bird among trees and bamboo.
Severtzov's hazel grouse differs from other hazel grouses with its special dark pattern on the head and strong attachment to bamboo thickets in high mountains. It helps spread plant seeds and serves as prey for predators, maintaining balance in the mountain forests of China.
