Montane francolin
Scleroptila psilolaema
The mountain francolin is a medium-sized bird from the pheasant family. It lives in high-altitude meadows and wastelands of East Africa at an elevation of more than two thousand meters.
The mountain francolin differs from other francolins by living at high altitudes and having a more modest coloration. It helps maintain the balance of insects in meadows and serves as food for local predators.
