The royal cinclodes is a rare bird of the ovenbird family that lives only in the highlands of the Andes in southern Peru and northern Bolivia. The species is endangered due to habitat loss.
The royal cinclodes differs from related species by a brighter rufous stripe on the wing and strict attachment to high-mountain polylepis groves. It is important for nature as a regulator of insect populations and an indicator of the health of Andean high-mountain ecosystems.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
