Calm, obedient, less aggressive than the wild Asian buffalo. Well adapted to working with humans, shows moderate energy, social in the herd, has a pronounced milking instinct.
Mesani — a selective line of the domesticated wild water buffalo (Bubalus arnee), bred in Thailand. One of the largest and most massive specialized meat lines of the Asian buffalo. Adult bulls weigh 950–1350 kg (average 1100–1200 kg), cows 650–950 kg (average 780–850 kg). Height at withers: bulls 148–168 cm, cows 138–155 cm. Body length: bulls 2600–3100 mm, cows 2400–2800 mm. Build is powerful, rectangular, with well-developed musculature in the rump and thighs, heavy bone structure and relatively short, strong limbs. Stretch index 185–195 %. Chest girth exceeds height at withers by 35–40 %. Head constitutes 32–35 % of height at withers. Standard color — solid coal-black or very dark gray. A small amount of white hair on the tail tuft and coronary band of the hooves is allowed. Light spots on the body, brown or reddish tint are unacceptable.
