The beluga is a marine mammal from the narwhal family. In adult animals the skin becomes pure white, the head is large with a rounded protrusion, and there is no dorsal fin.
The beluga differs from other whales by the white skin in adults and the complete absence of a dorsal fin. This helps to swim freely among the ice. Belugas are important for the Arctic nature as predators and as part of the food chain.
