The Bayalych dormouse, or selevinia, is a small rodent that lives only in the deserts of Kazakhstan. It has a long tail, large ears and soft fur that helps it survive in a dry and hot climate.
The Bayalych dormouse differs from other rodents in that it easily tolerates severe heat and can hibernate even in summer with a lack of food. It is important for the desert because it eats insects and serves as food for predators.
