toothed seadevil
Neoceratias spinifer
The toothy sea devil is a deep-sea fish from the anglerfish group. Females have a large head with long sharp teeth and live in complete darkness, while males are much smaller and attach to females permanently.
The toothy sea devil differs from other anglerfish in that females lack a glowing lure. Males become part of the female's body. This species helps understand how animals survive in the cold darkness of the deep ocean and how food chains are structured at great depths.
