The Laysan rail was a small flightless bird that lived only on one small island in the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, this species completely disappeared in 1923 after changes on the island.
The Laysan rail differed from other rails by its very small wings and complete inability to fly. It was an important part of the island's nature, helping to control insect populations, but disappeared after introduced rabbits destroyed the grass and bushes.
