The flat-tailed tortoise is a small land tortoise with a very flat shell. It lives only in dry forests on the west of Madagascar.
The flat shell distinguishes this species from other turtles and helps it hide well among leaves on the ground. The turtle is important for Madagascar's nature because it participates in seed dispersal of plants.
