starwitzer cropper
Calm, moderately active, pronounced instinct for crop inflation and wing displays. Males are territorial during lekking, peaceful otherwise. They coexist well in a flock but require space for flight and display.
Starwitzer Cropper — a medium-large, high-standing flying-game and ornamental cropper (pouter). Weight 420–580 g (cocks), 380–520 g (hens). Total body length 340–390 mm, height in stance 320–380 mm. Gives the impression of a tall, slender, but powerful pigeon with a strongly developed ability to inflate the crop. Distinguished by a dry, slightly elongated head, long neck with a pear-shaped to spherical crop (constriction in the lower third), long wings with characteristic outward and upward twist of the primary feather tips (Flügelsteller, angle 30–45°), long unfeathered legs. Standard colors: black-and-white (rich black with green-violet sheen on head, neck, chest, shoulders, back and wings; pure white lower crop, abdomen, flanks, legs and tail with a clear horizontal “Starwitz-cut” boundary) and red-and-white (brick-red or cherry-red instead of black). Ideal proportions: height:body length ≈ 1:1, wing length:tail ≈ 2.2–2.4:1, crop girth:head ≈ 2.6–2.9:1. Disqualifying faults: squat body, short legs, absence of wing twist, swallow tail, white feathers in the colored zone, feathered shanks, light eyes.
