Arapaima gigas
Arapaima gigas is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world. It lives in the Amazon basin and breathes atmospheric air.
The arapaima differs by its enormous size and its ability to breathe air using a special organ. As the main predator, it regulates the number of other fish in the rivers of Amazonia.
Grabs prey with a large mouth during hunting at the surface or in the water column.
