Pseudoscaphirhynchus hermanni
The Amu Darya small shovelnose is a small freshwater fish from the sturgeon family. It lives only in the Amu Darya River and its tributaries, has a wide flat snout in the shape of a shovel and is covered with bony plates.
The small shovelnose differs from other sturgeons in its very small size and unique snout structure. It plays an important role in the river ecosystem by feeding on bottom-dwelling invertebrates. The species is threatened with extinction due to changes in river flow and water pollution.
