sierra madre sparrow
Xenospiza baileyi
The Mexican sparrow is a small bird about 15 centimeters long. It lives only in the highland meadows of the Sierra Madre in Mexico and is distinguished by its gray head with striped brown plumage.
The Mexican sparrow differs from related sparrow species by its limited range only in the highlands of Mexico and its special gray-brown striped pattern. It is important for nature as a seed disperser of grasses and as part of the food chain in mountain meadows.
Collects food from the ground surface with its beak.
