The Titicaca water frog is a large aquatic frog that lives only in the cold waters of Lake Titicaca high in the mountains of South America. It has strongly wrinkled skin that helps it breathe oxygen directly from the water because the lungs are hardly used.
The Titicaca water frog differs from other frogs with its strongly wrinkled skin and almost complete abandonment of pulmonary respiration. It is important for Lake Titicaca as part of the local nature, but is currently severely suffering from water pollution and climate change.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
