Gascogne Pigeon (Gascogne pigeon)
Calm, balanced, moderately active. Navigates the terrain well, has a strong homing instinct. Less fearful compared to many sporting breeds, shows moderate sociability in the pack.
Gascogne — a medium-sized meat and exhibition breed of domestic pigeon from the Gascony region (France). Male weight 650–850 g, female 550–750 g; body length 380–460 mm, wingspan 780–860 mm. A strong, compact, elegant bird with well-developed pectoral musculature, slightly raised body, and proud head carriage. Differs from the wild rock pigeon by a larger, more massive body, broad rounded breast, bright metallic sheen on the neck and breast, distinct wide black wing bars, and horizontal stance. Standard color Bleu de Gascogne: rich bluish-slate body, green-violet-bronze metallic sheen on head, neck and breast, two black transverse bars on the wings, light-blue rump, dark slate tail with a wide black terminal band. Variants Argent, Noir, Blanc, Rouge/Dun are allowed. Proportions: body length 2.8–3 times the height at withers, head 1/7–1/8 of total length. Disqualifying faults: missing or blurred bars, white feathers in the bar/on the tail in blue birds, red/yellow eyes, feathered shanks, strongly raised tail, narrow breast, overly coarse head.
