Calm, friendly, active. Pronounced crop inflation (cropping) instinct, especially in males. Gets along well with other pigeons, non-aggressive. Strong homing instinct to the loft.
Austrian Magpie Cropper — a medium-large cropper pigeon with a pronounced "goose" body type. Weight of males 450–580 g, females 380–520 g. Body length 480–560 mm. Circumference of inflated crop 380–480 mm. Build strong, vertical posture (angle 55–70°), with a highly developed, pear-shaped, high-set crop. Head relatively small, dry, slightly rounded (length 45–52 mm). Beak of medium length (18–23 mm), strong, slightly curved. Neck long, widening downward. Body slightly elongated, back broad, chest broad and rounded, abdomen tucked up. Wings long (wingspan 280–320 mm), held close. Legs of medium length (shank 38–46 mm), unfeathered. Tail of medium length (110–135 mm), with 12–14 tail feathers. Mandatory breed pattern — "Magpie": head, neck, crop, chest, shoulders, upper back and sides — pure white; wing stripe, tail, rump and undertail — black with metallic green-violet sheen. Acceptable colors of colored parts: black, red, yellow, blue, silver. Differs from the base breed and other croppers by a high pear-shaped "goose" type crop, stable magpie pattern, vertical proud posture, absence of feathering on shanks and a lighter dry head. Proportions: body length to height ≈ 1:1.1; crop circumference ≥85% of body length. Disqualifying faults: absence of white on crop/head, completely white wings/tail, horizontal posture, feathered shanks, double crop.
