The American sea devil is a large bottom-dwelling fish with a huge head and a wide mouth. On its head there is a long outgrowth with a lure that is used for hunting.
The American sea devil differs from deep-sea anglerfish by the absence of a glowing lure and living at shallower depths. It plays an important role in the marine ecosystem as a large predator controlling the populations of other fish and invertebrates.
