pel's flying squirrel
Anomalurus pelii
Pel's anomalure is a large African rodent from the family of scaly-tailed squirrels. It can glide between trees for distances of up to one hundred meters thanks to a skin membrane on the sides of its body and uses the scales on its tail to control the flight and cling to the bark.
Pel's anomalure differs from other scaly-tailed squirrels in its particularly large size and the shape of the scales on its tail. It is important for the forest because it spreads plant seeds and serves as food for predators.
