Geography of the falanouc

Here we explain where the falanouc lives and which environmental conditions suit it.

Falanouc: what is it like

The Malagasy mongoose is found within the biogeographical realms of Afrotropics and Neotropics, inhabiting ecosystems such as Eastern Arc forests, Eastern African mountain forests, and coastal forests and woodlands of southern Swahili. Falanoucs specifically occupy Eastern Arc forests, mountainous forests of Eastern Africa, and coastal forests and woodlands in the southern Swahili region. The species’ distribution is limited to these particular habitats.

Falanouc is a small predatory mammal with a long slender body and short legs. This animal lives only in the forests of Madagascar and hunts insects and small vertebrates.
The fanaluk differs from true mongooses by small teeth and closer relation to civets. It is important for Madagascar's nature because it controls the population of insects and small animals in the forest litter.
