Fariñeiro (Burro Fariñeiro, Lúa Fariñeiro, Asno Gallego) — a selective line of the Galician donkey, endemic to Galicia (Spain). Donkey of medium size, strong but relatively light build, adapted to mountainous and hilly terrain. Height at withers 110–130 cm, live weight 180–280 kg, body length 130–155 cm. Build harmonious, dry, with well-defined musculature. Head of medium size (length 380–460 mm), profile straight or slightly concave. Ears long (210–280 mm). Neck of medium length (380–480 mm). Body deep and compact, chest girth 130–150 cm. Back short and strong, croup wide (38–44 cm), slightly sloping. Limbs dry and strong, hooves strong, dark horn or black in color. Tail low-set, length of vertebral part 35–45 cm, with hair up to 70–85 cm. Coat short, dense, smooth in summer, with undercoat in winter. Skin thin but strong, fully pigmented. Allowed color: gray (pardo) of various shades from light gray to dark gray and mouse gray, with obligatory dark cross on the shoulders (cruz de San Andrés). Small white markings on the muzzle and belly are allowed. Differs from large donkey breeds by smaller height, drier constitution, high neck set and short back. Format index ≈1.15–1.22, massiveness index ≈115–125%.
