nutcracker
Nucifraga caryocatactes
The Eurasian nutcracker is a medium-sized bird from the crow family. It lives in coniferous forests and collects cedar and pine seeds, some of which it hides in the ground for winter.
The nutcracker differs from other corvids by its long bill and habit of making huge seed reserves. It is important for nature because forgotten seeds germinate and help coniferous forests recover.
Smashes cones and nuts with a strong beak, makes large reserves of seeds in the ground and under stones.
