Serinus canaria
68
The Canary Islands chiffchaff is a small bird of the warbler family, about 13 centimeters long. It is the wild ancestor of domestic canaries, living on islands in the Atlantic Ocean and known for the loud melodic song of males.
The Canary canary finch differs from related finches with the bright yellow coloration of males and very diverse song. It plays an important role in seed dispersal of plants on the islands and became the basis for breeding many domestic canary breeds.
Pecks and cleans seeds with its strong conical beak.
