The Northern Sulawesi babirusa is a wild pig that lives only in the forests of Sulawesi Island in Indonesia. Males have long tusks growing from the upper jaw that pierce the skin of the snout and curve strongly backward.
The babirusa differs from other pigs by its tusks that grow upwards and never wear down. It is important for the forest because it disperses plant seeds and serves as food for large predators.
