frills and owls
Frills and Owls
Calm, peaceful, moderately active. Pronounced decorative instinct: males often demonstrate 'cooing with crop inflation' and characteristic 'neck twisting'. They get along well with other pigeons, non-aggressive. Weakly expressed homing instinct compared to carrier breeds.
Frills and Owls (owl pigeons, Möwchentauben, Pigeon cravaté, Frills, Rackové) — a group of fancy breeds of domestic pigeons, bred for pronounced structural feathering and characteristic "owl" or "frilled" appearance. Pigeons of medium and small-medium size. Weight 240–380 g (males 280–380 g, females 240–320 g), body length 220–280 mm, wingspan 520–640 mm. Distinguished by a short compact almost square body, rounded broad head with high forehead and crest (peak crest or rosette), short thick neck with abundant curled "frilled" feathering (cravat/jabot/frill), forming a lush jabot up to 40–55 mm deep. Feather structure on the neck, chest and shoulders — strongly curved shaft and flared vanes, creating a ruffled effect. Wings short, held tightly, tail short (70–95 mm), slightly raised. Legs short, feathered or semi-feathered. Color variants: solid (black, red, yellow, white, silver, blue), tiger, marbled, classic Owl colors (Blue Owl, Silver Owl, etc.). Differs from the basic type by frill feather structure, compact build, high forehead and abundant head feathering. The standard requires: body length ≈ height, jabot depth ≥⅔ head length, rounded "owl" silhouette, tightly held wings. Not allowed: long body, weak frill, flat forehead, beak >26 mm.
