Ornate ghost pipefish
Solenostomus paradoxus
The marine ghost pipefish, or Solenostomus paradoxus, is a small fish with a thin body and skin appendages. It camouflages excellently among corals, sea lilies, and algae in tropical seas.
This species differs from related pipefish by its bright variable coloration and large skin growths that make it look like a piece of algae. It helps maintain balance on reefs by eating small crustaceans.
