The white-bellied seal, or monk seal, is a large marine mammal from the family of true seals. It lives in the coastal waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the northeastern Atlantic and is considered one of the rarest seals in the world.
The white-bellied seal differs from other seals with its light belly and its habit of hiding in marine caves. It is important for nature as a predator that helps maintain the balance of marine animals and serves as an indicator of the purity of coastal waters.
