Eleonorais falcon
Falco eleonorae
Eleonora's falcon is a medium-sized predatory bird from the falcon family. It nests in colonies on the rocks of Mediterranean islands in late summer and feeds mainly on migratory birds.
Eleonora's falcon is distinguished by very late nesting among falcons. This allows the chicks to receive an abundance of migratory birds as food. It plays an important role in controlling the population of small birds in Mediterranean ecosystems.
