The common newt is a small amphibian up to 11 centimeters long. It lives in Europe and the western part of Asia, spending part of its life in water and part on land.
The common newt differs from the crested newt by its smooth skin without bumps and smaller size. It is useful because it eats mosquito larvae and serves as food for many animals.
