southern viet nam box turtle
Cuora picturata
The southern Vietnamese box turtle is a small terrestrial turtle with a high shell. It lives in the forests of southern Vietnam and can completely close its shell when in danger.
This species differs from other box turtles by the special pattern of its shell and the shape of its dome. The turtle is important for the forest ecosystem because it disperses plant seeds and eats insects.
