The Hawaiian malacocephalus is a deep-sea fish with a large head and a long body that tapers to the tail. It inhabits the bottom of the Pacific Ocean near the Hawaiian Islands at depths of several hundred meters.
The Hawaiian malacocephalus differs from related species by its short whisker and the shape of scales on its head. It plays an important role in the deep-sea food chain, eating small animals and serving as food for larger fish.
Locomotion through water employed while searching for or capturing prey.
Legendary longevity: over 100 years. Galapagos tortoises, Greenland sharks, ocean quahogs celebrate with family once every 4 years

Theoretical maximum lifespan estimated from the Dynamic Energy Budget (DEB) mathematical model. This value reflects a biological potential derived from metabolic parameters, not from direct observation — real recorded lifespans are often significantly shorter.
