The common triplefin is a small marine fish up to 6.5 centimeters long. It has three separate dorsal fins, for which it got its name. The fish lives near rocky shores of New Zealand.
The common triplefin differs from related species by its distinctly pronounced three dorsal fins and the special way the male cares for the eggs. This fish is important for the coastal ecosystem because it controls the population of small invertebrates.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
