Cheilopogon katoptron
Cheilopogon katoptron
Cheilopogon katoptron is a species of flying fish from tropical seas. The fish jumps out of the water and glides above the surface on large pectoral fins for 40–50 meters.
Cheilopogon katoptron differs from related species by its special mirror-like shine on the pectoral fins. These fish serve as an important part of the marine food chain: they eat plankton and small fish, and themselves become food for tunas, dolphins, and birds.
