Barbus grypus, or shabut, is a large freshwater fish from the carp family. It lives in the Tigris, Euphrates rivers and their tributaries in the Middle East.
Shabut differs from other barbs in its very large size, powerful body, and four long barbels. This fish is important for river ecosystems because it participates in the cycle of substances and serves as food for large predators.
Searches for food on the bottom using antennae and captures it with a large mouth.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
