marbled water frog
Telmatobius marmoratus
The marble water frog lives only in the water of cold mountain lakes and streams of the high Andes. It has skin with a marble gray-green pattern that helps it hide on the rocky bottom.
The marble water frog differs from most frogs in that it never comes out on land and breathes through its skin in cold water with low oxygen content. It is important for nature because it eats small animals and serves as food for birds and fish in mountain water bodies.
