Schistometopum thomense
Tomen Schistometopum is a legless amphibian from the island of São Tomé off the west coast of Africa. It lives in the soil of tropical forests, has a long body without legs, and looks like a large annelid worm.
Unlike most amphibians, this species has no legs at all, and its eyes are hidden under the skin. It is important for the island's nature because it loosens the soil and regulates the number of soil invertebrates.
