Engystomops montubio is a small frog from the Leptodactylidae family. It lives only in the western part of Ecuador and builds special foamy nests to protect its offspring.
Engystomops montubio differs from related species in its special way of creating a foamy nest that retains moisture for the eggs in a dry climate. These frogs help maintain balance in nature by eating a large number of insects.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
