The Japanese huchen, or Sakhalin taimen, is a large predatory fish from the salmon family. It lives in rivers and coastal sea waters of the Russian Far East and Japan.
The Japanese huchen differs from other taimen by being able to live in seawater and venture into the ocean. It is important for nature as a large predator that regulates fish populations in rivers and coastal waters.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
